SEMPORNA: The Semporna Local Bumiputera Tourism Operators Association (Puspabumi) has urged the Sabah government to simplify licence and land application processes to support local tourism entrepreneurs.
Deputy Chairman Suffian Ahmad said small and medium operators face delays and high costs due to complex procedures, affecting their ability to compete.

The association also proposed setting up a Department of Lands and Surveys office in Semporna to speed up land matters currently handled in Tawau.
Committee member Salleh Abdul Salleh called for dialogue before enforcement under the state’s new tourism task force, highlighting issues with short-term Temporary Occupation Licences.
He suggested extending TOL periods and granting a grace period to allow operators to regularise documentation.
They said streamlined approvals are crucial to sustain Semporna’s tourism industry and protect local livelihoods.
