Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has called on government agencies to adopt more reasonable and inclusive dress code standards following a recent incident at the Road Transport Department office in Labuan.
Its Information Chief Nicholas Ban
(pic) said attire should be judged based on being neat and appropriate rather than subjected to rigid or overly restrictive interpretations.
“We firmly believe that certain conservative, and at times extreme, mindsets from parts of Peninsular Malaysia should not be imposed on East Malaysia, particularly Sabah,” he said in a statement.
The call follows a report that a man was advised against wearing shorts while renewing his driving licence at the Labuan JPJ office despite saying he was dressed decently due to hot weather.
Nicholas said enforcement of guidelines should be carried out with sound judgment and humane consideration, adding that essential services should remain accessible and not be affected by dress code issues.
