Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said a report was lodged by the 31-year-old local mechanic on Sunday, after he was discharged from Tawau Hospital.
“The mechanic’s leg was pierced by a long metal rod by a masked ‘customer’ in the incident,” he said on Tuesday.
The mechanic was working on the day of the incident when the unidentified man contacted him at about 9.24pm, asking him to come to his house in Kg Kongsi 8 to collect payment.
When the victim went to the customer’s house, he was shocked when an unidentified man suddenly appeared and pulled both his hands behind his back.
“At the time of the incident, the complainant was on his motorcycle waiting for the customer who had called him. He could not identify his attacker’s face, as the man was using a cloth to cover part of his face,” Jasmin said.
The masked attacker then asked the victim to repair his motorcycle, but the mechanic refused unless his payment was settled first, prompting the suspect to threaten to stab him.
The mechanic warned that he would make a police report if assaulted. The suspect then proceeded to stab the complainant’s left leg.
Jasmin said the suspect attempted to remove the metal rod, but the mechanic writhed in pain, leading the attacker to take the victim to Tawau Hospital for treatment.
“The victim underwent two surgical procedures,” he said. A background check on the suspect revealed he has 11 previous criminal records reported in Tawau, Ampang, Sungai Way, Damansara and Sungai Jarom.
