TELUPID: The Sabah government has begun construction of a new RM29 million bridge across Sungai Labuk at Kampung Gambaron, expected to be completed within two years.
State Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the 254-metre bridge will use modern construction technology, with its main structure prefabricated in a factory before installation on site to speed up progress.

He said the project is expected to bring positive economic and social impact while improving access for nearby communities.
He was speaking at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.
Construction started on 5 February 2026 and is scheduled for completion on 4 February 2028.
The bridge is long awaited by residents of Kampung Ansuan and Kampung Baba, who have relied on suspension bridges, ferries and boats for years and risk being cut off when flooding or damage occurs.
