KENINGAU: The second day of a search and rescue (SAR) operation for two missing family members ended with the discovery of one victim’s body at Sungai Banjar on Wednesday.
The victim, a 60-year-old man, was found dead in the afternoon, while efforts to locate his 10-year-old grandson are ongoing.
The incident began when both victims were testing a new boat in a river near Taman Bersatu, with rescue teams from the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station, police and Civil Defence Force deployed as early as 6.10am.
The operation focused on surface searches along Sungai Banjar up to Sungai Mempikit, with assistance from the local community.
After nearly 11 hours, volunteers from Team Gallen Star located the body at about 5.21pm, around 7km from where the victims were last reported missing, and it was handed over to police for further action and post-mortem.
