Keningau roads get long-awaited upgrade

KENINGAU: After more than 40 years of relying on dilapidated and risky roads, residents in Mukim Senagang and Keritan Ulu finally see their wait end as two road upgrading projects are now being implemented, thus improving safety, connectivity and quality of life for the rural community.

The Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) is implementing the project to upgrade Jalan Senagang Bridge, Senagang Ulu, Keningau under the allocation of the Sabah Government to strengthen the road infrastructure in the area.

The project is registered under reference AK(S)/2025/PH4/003, with the Sabah State Ministry of Finance acting as the client, and is being implemented by Kenari Express Sdn. Bhd. starting 25 November 2025 to 25 November 2027.

At the same time, the project to upgrade Jalan Keritan Ulu, Keningau is also being implemented under reference AK(S)/2024/PH3/005, also by the same contractor, starting 28 October 2024 and scheduled for full completion on 28 October 2025.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
Both projects are monitored by the Sabah Director of Public Works with the support of a representative of the Superintendent from the Roads Branch.

Local residents attribute the implementation of the project to the continuous efforts of Annuar Ayub Aman, former Liawan Assemblyman, who had previously worked on upgrading the asphalt of Jalan Keritan Laut–Keritan Ulu and Jalan Senagang Lama–Senagang Ulu, thus paving the way for the implementation of the current project.

Spokesperson for the villagers of Senagang Ulu, Jimsimun Ahip, said that although Annuar is no longer holding office as an Assemblyman, his contribution is still felt by the residents as a leader who successfully fought for the basic needs of the people after decades of waiting.

According to him, the results enjoyed today prove that leadership is judged by actions and long-term effects, in line with the Malay proverb “a tiger dies leaving its stripes, a human being dies leaving its name,” when the legacy left behind continues to benefit the next generation.

The implementation of both projects is expected to improve road safety, smoothen daily communication and support the socio-economic development of rural residents in Mukim Senagang and Keritan Ulu.
