TAWAU: A timber trailer lorry driver was killed when he was trapped underneath after it skidded and overturned along Jalan Kalabakan-Sapulut, near the Maliau Basin Forest Reserve in Kalabakan, Wednesday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said the victim was in his 40s.
“We received an emergency call regarding the accident at 10.03am through the station hotline and arrived at the location about two hours later, which was 133km from BBP Tawau,” he said.
Jemishin said seven BBP Tawau personnel led by Senior Fire Officer I Suheizan Sahak were deployed to the scene, supported by four members of the Kalabakan Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The trailer was carrying logs.
“Our team extricated the victim using special equipment,” he said.
Personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) confirmed the driver had died.
The remains were handed over to the police.
