LABUAN: The Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) handled two separate incidents early Thursday — a road accident and a python sighting.
At 9.04am, a Proton Saga reportedly lost control and crashed at Jalan Kampung Ganggarak.
The driver was unharmed and taken to hospital in an APM ambulance for further checks.
APM Officer Major (PA) Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Badrudin urged the public to drive carefully and prioritise road safety.
Earlier at 8.34am, APM responded to a report of a python over one metre long spotted beside a box at Kampung Sungai Bangat.
The snake was safely captured and released back into its natural habitat by APM personnel.
In KENINGAU, a King Cobra entered a house at Henry Gurney School Housing on Wednesday at 8.45pm, said Fire and Rescue Station Chief Serevinus @Mohd Nidzam Sinkui.
Upon receiving the call, the fire team, consisting of three members and an EMRS fire engine, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Operations Commander confirmed that a Spitting Cobra was inside the complainant’s house.
The fire personnel immediately captured the snake using specialised snake-catching equipment and later released it back into its natural habitat, far from human activity.
“After the snake was safely captured and released, we advise residents of Keningau to always be cautious of their surroundings, especially by keeping doors closed and the area around the house clean to prevent it from becoming a hiding place for venomous animals,” he said.
He also advised that anyone encountering snakes or dangerous animals should not act alone and should immediately contact the emergency line MERS 999 or directly reach out to the Keningau Fire Station control room for expert assistance.
At the same time, a woman needed help removing a ring that could not be taken off her finger.
“Without delay, fire personnel used specialized tools for this operation, which required expert precision. A wrong move could have injured the finger instead of cutting the ring,” he said.
The incident occurred at Keningau Hospital at 3.12am, and the fire team used a “special ring cutter” to safely remove the ring.
