Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah said the reappointment of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister will reinforce the state’s economic stability, investor confidence and long-term development plans.
Its President Datuk Dexter Lau hoped Hajiji would appoint the most qualified individuals to the state cabinet and key positions to ensure smooth policy execution and investor facilitation.
He said Hajiji has earned strong trust from both the public and the business community through his steady leadership, open economic policies and pragmatic approach to governance.
“Hajiji has consistently driven Sabah’s economic transformation, strengthened cooperation frameworks and improved the overall business environment.
“His reappointment is a stabilising factor for investors, and we welcome this continuity,” he said.
MCCC was the first Chinese chamber to congratulate Hajiji. The Chinese in Sabah largely voted opposition Parti Warisan in the just-concluded election, to the extent of no longer supporting peninsula-based DAP, which lost all eight seats it contested.
Lau noted that during Hajiji’s tenure, the state government introduced key reforms including enhancements to fiscal management, progress in oil and gas revenue negotiations, infrastructure modernisation, ongoing digitalisation efforts, and wider industrial diversification involving agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, logistics and renewable energy sectors.
These initiatives, he said, have gradually shaped Sabah into a more resilient and competitive economy.
Lau said MCCC Sabah would continue to support the state government’s economic direction and is committed to strengthening collaboration in investment promotion, trade facilitation, cross-border industrial linkages, talent development and SME growth.
“We will continue to fully support the Chief Minister’s leadership. With clear direction and unified efforts, Sabah is well-positioned to accelerate its economic progress,” he said.
Lau added that Sabah’s increasing business, tourism and cultural exchanges with China place the state in a strategic position to emerge as an important Malaysia-China-Asean hub, especially with rising interest in industrial parks, logistics connectivity, green energy projects and downstream industries.
“A stable and high-performing administration is essential to realising this vision, and Hajiji’s continued leadership provides that foundation,” he said.
