SANDAKAN: A small kitchen fire at a housing unit in PPR Taman Batu Sapi early this morning was swiftly brought under control with no injuries reported.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue acting chief Jimmy Lagung said the emergency call came in at 4.15am, with firefighters arriving about 15 minutes later to find that only five per cent of the 6x6ft kitchen area had been affected.

He said nearby residents had already extinguished the flames using tap water and fire extinguishers, and after ensuring the area was safe, the operation concluded at 5.04am.
