KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will soon benefit from the long-awaited opening of two major student hostel blocks - Block B1 and B2 of Kolej Kediaman Pelajar UMS Numbak – after years of delays caused by legal and technical complications.
The project has been revived by urban lifestyle developer Titijaya Land Berhad after acquired the assets for RM105 million in May 2025.
UMS currently houses only about 7,000 of its 18,000 students, forcing many to rent off-campus. The completion of Block B1 and B2 is expected to ease years of housing pressure and support a more conducive learning environment.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who visited the project site on Saturday, said the hostel buildings had been delayed due to legal and technical complications involving the contractor and the university.
