Filipino to stand trial for trafficking 1.9kg cannabis
The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed Filipino, charged with trafficking 1,912.03gm of cannabis, will go on trial in December next year.

High Court Judge Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid fixed Dec 7-11, 2026, for the trial of Zuhire Sabdani.

Zuhire, 49, was accused of committing the offence on Feb 22, this year, at 11.50am, at the staircase passageway beside a clinic, at Warisan Square, here.

Zuhire was represented by counsel Azhier Farhan.

He was ordered to be further remanded pending the dates as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate’s Court, a woman was fined RM1,700 or jailed one month for engaging in an online gambling session.

Rafidah Rahman pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence using a handphone that had the online gambling application ‘Mega888’ installed on Oct 12, at 4.05pm, at the five-foot-way of a restaurant in Donggongon town, Penampang.

The charge is framed under Section 7(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both, on conviction.

The court was told that Rafidah was arrested for her involvement in the activity, and that RM33 in cash was among the items seized from her. 

The court ordered the seized cash to be forfeited as government revenue.
