TAWAU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution expressed confidence that former Federal Senior Secretary Datuk Ruji Ubi can drive meaningful reform not just in Merotai but across Sabah.
Saifuddin described Ruji as the most competent Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Merotai, highlighting his strong educational and professional background, as well as deep understanding of local issues as a native of the area.
He urged Merotai voters not to miss the opportunity to elect a representative who has close ties with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“When the Prime Minister visited here a few months ago, he entrusted Ruji with significant responsibilities. We hope the people of Merotai will give him the same trust,” he said.
Saifuddin said this after the “Santai Malam Bersama Belia Merotai” programme, here, Wednesday night, which was also attended by Ruji and Tawau’s early reform advocate Ustaz Dr Badrulamin Bahron.
He noted that Ruji, as a former high-ranking government officer, is adept at solving public issues, drawing on his record of service across three ministries.
“Like the proverb goes, ‘only the people of Mecca understand Mecca’. I urge Merotai voters not to miss this chance. The ball is now in the voters’ court,” he said.
Saifuddin said he is satisfied with PH’s campaign preparedness, noting that all polling districts in Merotai have been visited, which boosts confidence of victory.
However, he reminded party workers to avoid personal attacks against opponents and focus on promoting PH’s achievements and the candidate’s strengths.
“We are confident Merotai can deliver a winning seat for PH, alongside other key constituencies such as Inanam, Api-Api, Sindumin and Petagas. These areas are our priority,” he said.
