Kota Kinabalu: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud
(pic) has strongly condemned an act allegedly insulting the Quran that recently went viral on social media.
Mustapha described the act, which allegedly involved a copy of the Quran being stepped on and defaced with insulting drawings, as extreme, uncivilised and contrary to the principles of the Rukun Negara.

He said such actions must not be taken lightly as they touch on the sensitivities of Muslims and have the potential to disrupt harmony in Sabah’s multi-religious and multi-ethnic society.
Mustapha said Malaysia is built on mutual respect among religions and cultures, and stressed that such actions clearly contradict those values.
He also expressed full support for authorities including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and take firm legal action against those involved while urging the public not to take matters into their own hands.
