RANAU: Residents in this district and nearby areas will soon benefit from a new RM56 million road connecting Kundasang–Ranau via Kampung Tambiau, Kampung Sarapong and Kampung Kenipir, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity.

Karanaan Assemblyman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the new route will link Kampung Mohimboyon to Tambiau, Sarapong, and Kenipir, providing an alternative to the busy main Kundasang–Ranau road, especially during peak hours and holidays.

“The construction of this new road, which was previously announced and is currently under way, also involves a shortcut from Kampung Kibbas, Mohimboyon, Pahu, and Himbaan before connecting to Kiulu and Tinompok,” he said.

Masidi said the road would make it easier for residents and farmers to transport agricultural produce, such as fruits and vegetables, to markets — boosting local income and economic activity.

He was speaking at the 2025 Senior Citizens Celebration and Thanksgiving Dinner, jointly organised by the Ranau Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Kundasang Agricultural Entrepreneurs’ Association at the Hakka Hall on Tuesday.

He also announced that the state government has allocated RM5 million annually for special scholarships for Chinese students in Chinese primary schools up to the SPM level.

Masidi added that aside from federal allocations, the State Government has already spent RM1.2 billion on the education sector in Sabah.

“Government assistance is extended to all students regardless of race or religion,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Jimmy Tham Yuk Leong, Chairman of the Ranau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s celebration theme — “Appreciating Services, Celebrating Togetherness and Being Grateful for the Blessings of Life” — carries a profound message.

“It reminds us that the life we enjoy today is built upon the sweat, patience, and sacrifice of previous generations. We appreciate their contributions because without them, we wouldn’t have the progress and happiness we enjoy now,” he said.

Dr Tham added that the event serves as a reminder to continue showing love, respect, and care for senior citizens, acknowledging their wisdom and lifelong contributions.

Also present at the event were Ranau Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer Benedict Gunda, Ranau District Officer Tinus Manggam and other local leaders.
