Kinabatangan crash, Sandakan car fire

SANDAKAN: Two separate road incidents occurred on Sunday, involving a vehicle overturning in Kinabatangan and a car fire in Sandakan.

In the first incident, a four-wheel-drive Isuzu D-Max was reported to have skidded and overturned on the roadside along Jalan Kampung Bilit, Kinabatangan, in the late afternoon.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Hairi Otuh, said his team received an emergency call at 5.35pm and immediately dispatched four firefighters to the scene, located 43 kilometers from the station.

However, the victim had already been taken to the hospital by members of the public with assistance from the Health Ministry’s ambulance before the firefighters arrived. The victim’s details were not obtained.

Firefighters later inspected the area to ensure there were no remaining hazards before concluding the operation at 6.28pm.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Sandakan, three people, two men aged 41 and 25, and a 12-year-old boy, escaped unhurt after their car caught fire along Jalan Lintas Sibuga in the afternoon.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Jimmy Lagung, said his team received a distress call through the MERS999 line at 2.30pm and arrived at the scene, 10 kilometers away, at 2.51pm.

The operation, involving nine firefighters, brought the blaze under control by 2.54pm. and ended at 3.11pm.

The vehicle, a Proton Iswara, was completely destroyed by the fire. All occupants managed to exit the vehicle safely before it was engulfed. The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
