SEMPORNA: A total of 8,833.80 kilograms of waste was collected during the ‘Anak Sabah Semporna 2025 Beach Clean-up Programme’ organised by the Pertubuhan Skuad Anak Sabah.
The effort, joined by 500 volunteers including Kampung Air residents and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members, was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the heaviest waste collection by a non-governmental organisation in the country.
Deputy President II of Skuad Anak Sabah, Mazlan Mainan, said the initiative not only aimed to clean the beach but also to strengthen community spirit and cooperation among locals.
He said Kampung Air, a densely populated settlement, faces serious waste management challenges, and the programme helped promote responsibility and awareness of cleanliness among residents.
The clean-up was supported by Sawit Kinabalu Group, Grill Patio, K2 Water, Page Eight, HS Printing Solution and Barber Addict, and Mazlan expressed hope for similar collaborations to continue in preserving Sabah’s natural beauty.
