Kota Kinabalu: The misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to reproduce songs featuring original works and singers is becoming increasingly concerning.
Irresponsible parties are using the technology to replicate original singers’ voices and alter works without permission, affecting the reputation of artistes and the integrity of original creations.
Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib urged that such activities be stopped as they could undermine copyright and the interests of original creators and singers.
He said local art and music must be respected and protected to ensure creators can continue producing works consistently and contribute to the development of the local creative industry.
“Respecting copyright and original works is important to ensure the local arts industry continues to grow and serves as a catalyst for the development of the nation’s creative ecosystem,” he said.
He said this when met by the media at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.
Meanwhile, James' Special Officer (Arts and Creative) Jimmy Palikat called on the government, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to take proactive steps to monitor and curb such activities from spreading further in the digital space.
