Upko calls for mature approach over use of logos
Rayner said Upko is confident that the top PH leadership will not view the issue as a conflict, but will handle it wisely as is customary within the coalition.
Tuaran: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) called for a mature and understanding approach to the proposal regarding the use of logos in the coming State election.

Upko Tuaran Division Youth Chief Rayner Ebi said it should be grounded in the spirit of consensus within Pakatan Harapan (PH).

PH Chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had previously granted autonomy to PH Sabah to determine its own political approaches and strategies at the State level.

“During the PH Sabah leadership meeting on May 29, the Prime Minister himself stated that PH Sabah consists of four leaders representing the four component parties, and that overall coordination would be led by PH Sabah Chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick,” he said.

Rayner said this statement reflects the trust and respect shown by the central leadership towards the uniqueness of Sabah’s political landscape, and Upko remains committed to upholding that spirit in all considerations.

“The proposal to use individual party logos should not be seen as a sign of disloyalty, but rather as part of a political strategy that takes into account local identity.

“PH Sabah has always practised the principles of consultation and consensus,” he said.

He noted that PKR had previously used its own logo in the 2022 Johor state election, while Amanah and DAP used the PH logo.

“This example shows that PH has always been open to diverse strategies under one cooperative umbrella. Therefore, there should be no question of loyalty in this matter,” he said.

Rayner said Upko is confident that the top PH leadership will not view the issue as a conflict, but will handle it wisely as is customary within the coalition.

“We leave it to the PH Presidential Council to review and decide on the matter in the best possible way.

“For Upko, what matters most is ensuring that unity and collective strength continue to be strengthened for the benefit of the people,” he said.

Upko remains committed to strengthening cooperation within PH, in line with the spirit of mutual respect and shared responsibility to build a more progressive and prosperous future for Sabah.
