Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s para Sukma-bound archers captured five golds along with four silvers and two bronzes in category one at the Allianz-MSN National Para Archery Circuit 1 2026 held at Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Paralimpik, Kg. Pandan, Kuala Lumpur from April 14-18.
The gold medal winners were Charlie Jekulis/Fredoline Modius (recurve men’s team), Mohd Fakrul Azam Roslen/Arthur Sinabil (compound men’s team), Charlie Jekulis/Suzillah Saunin (recurve mix team, Arthur Sinabil (compound men individual) and Fredoline Modius (recurve men individual).
The silvers were delivered by Lidwina Isidore Andilah/Nurizzati Zahidah Hasanudin (compound women team), Mohd Fakrul Azam Roslen/Lidwina Isidore Andilah (compound mix team), Lidwina Isidore Andilah (compound women individual) and Suzillah Saunin (recurve women individual), while the bronze medals came from Mohd Faizal Abdullah (compound men Individual) and Charlie Jekulis (recurve men individual).
The 12-member team was led by chief coach Paul Leong assisted by coaches Elaine Van and Mohamad Naqiyuddin Mohamad Nadzri together with three arrow agents.
Paul said 13-year-old Nurkhadijah Husna Budiman, who was included in the team, had an excellent outing to win the gold in the women’s category 2 recurve event.
According to him, the SMK Inanam student only took up the sport less than a year after being encouraged by Rehabilitation Medicine Physician Dr Thor Ju An.

He added that there will be some minor rectifications or adjustments to be made to the team ahead of the second circuit scheduled in June before the Para Sukma in Selangor in September.
