BELURAN: A mother has urged the Education Ministry (MOE) to act swiftly to address the plight of pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Balaban Jaya who are currently studying in temporary locations.
Selva Suzianatie, 33, said her two children in Year One and Year Five have been attending classes outside Masjid Kampung Balaban Jaya and at Dewan Kampung Sungai Nangka since January after the school building was deemed unsafe due to structural damage.

She said pupils, including pre-school, Year One and Year Three, are seated on the floor outside the mosque, while others are placed under tents or in the village hall, following a brief period of in-person classes and subsequent online learning earlier this year.
Selva expressed disappointment that no concrete action has been taken despite the matter being raised, and joined other parents in urging MOE to intervene to ensure safer and more conducive learning conditions.
Meanwhile, Likas assemblyman Tham Yun Fook said the school lacks a permanent building and called for immediate measures such as temporary cabin classrooms while awaiting construction funded by an estimated RM2 million allocation.
