LAHAD DATU: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development confirmed that a four-month-old baby boy died at a registered childcare centre.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the childcare centre had also complied with established procedures and inspections had been carried out to ensure this.
“The childcare centre was inspected three times in 2025 without any complaints, and there had never previously been any issues there,” she said.
According to Nancy, a temporary closure order was issued following the incident and the case is now under police investigation.
“The investigation is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code and two caregivers have been detained and remanded, while the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that has gone viral is also being examined by police,” she said at the Program Sinar Syawal YKN dan Jalinan Kasih PSSS at Masjid Nurul Jihad, here, on Friday.
Nancy said any further information regarding the incident should be referred to the police.
She also said the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat is assisting the parents in finding alternative nurseries following the closure of the centre involved, which has affected about 40 children.
Earlier, in conjunction with the programme, Nancy presented food baskets to 100 recipients to help ease their burden and bring cheer to asnaf families ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
She also presented grant allocations totalling RM120,000 to four recipients as part of efforts to support community development in the areas of religion, arts and culture.
