MEMBAKUT: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider suffered a broken right leg after their Modenas motorcycle collided head-on with a Perodua Ativa at Km19 Jalan Beaufort–Papar near Taman Emas Takapan on Wednesday night.

Membakut district police chief Supt Wong Leong Meng said the victim, Herrvin Rowell Sylvester from Kampung Bawan, died at the scene, while the pillion rider, a 14-year-old SMK Membakut student, was taken to Beaufort Hospital.

The car was driven by a 20-year-old Korean man and carried three passengers from Brunei. All escaped unhurt.

Police have detained the driver to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
