Kota Kinabalu: The 2026 State-level Kaamatan Festival will be celebrated with the theme “Kaamatan: Harvesting Unity, Celebrating Harmony.”
Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said all parties are requested to use the theme throughout this year’s Kaamatan Festival celebrations.
“The theme in English is Kaamatan: Harvesting Unity, Celebrating Harmony, while in the Kadazan Dusun language, it is Kaamatan: Mongomot Pisompuruan, Mamaramai Piunungan,” he said when chairing the State-level Kaamatan Festival Celebration Main Committee Meeting, here.
Dr Joachim, who is also the Chairman of the celebration’s Main Committee, said the theme symbolises the spirit of unity among the people of Sabah from various backgrounds living in an atmosphere of harmony.
“The Kaamatan Festival not only celebrates the traditions of the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut and Rungus communities but also serves as a platform to strengthen relationships and foster understanding between races in the State,” he said.
The Kaamatan Festival is celebrated every year in May to appreciate the harvest season and preserve the cultural heritage of Sabah’s indigenous communities.
