Kota Kinabalu: The Kasih Ramadan programme organised by Sabah Islamic Women’s Action Association (Pertiwisa) will provide assistance to 100 single mothers and asnaf in the state capital during the holy month.
Pertiwisa chairperson Zaleha Mohd Kassim said the programme will involve five recipients from each village, including Kampung Sembulan, Kampung Likas and Kampung Tanjung Aru, as well as several villages in Putatan and Kinarut.
“In conjunction with the month of Ramadan, Pertiwisa will also channel its annual contributions to the Tambunan Orphans’ School and to schools for converts at the Tambunan Religious School,” she said.
Zaleha said this when met during the Pertiwisa Grand Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony, which was attended by about 200 people.
The event was also graced by Faridah Tussin, wife of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and patron of the association.
Zaleha noted that Pertiwisa currently has around 300 members with five active branches across Sabah, namely in Sandakan, Tawau, Beaufort, Tuaran and Kota Belud.
“Throughout Ramadan, each branch is also organising Tadarus Al-Quran programmes at several locations, including the Sabah State Mosque and Wisma Wanita.
“Pertiwisa welcomes more Muslim women to join the association to further strengthen religious and welfare activities within the community,” she said.
Meanwhile, Pertiwisa also received a RM30,000 contribution from Dr Zailan Ahmad from Singapore, which will be distributed among its five branches as well as to a Muslim women’s non-governmental organisation in Kinabatangan.
In addition, the association expressed appreciation to Syarikat Ali for donating curry spice packages to help beneficiaries prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
“All these contributions will support the Kasih Ramadan programme, including financial aid and rice distribution for the recipients,” Zaleha added.
The event also featured a religious talk titled “Nuzul Al-Quran Rahmatan Lil Alamin” delivered by Normi Mat Yusuf, founder of the Zahratul Quran Centre.
Also present were Indonesian consul mother Pris Rahayu Norman and director of the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department, Haslina Ismail.
