KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has established a district-level committee to monitor and respond to crocodile sightings in waters around the city.
Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said the committee includes DBKK, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the State Wildlife Department (SWD), and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

It meets quarterly and conducts regular monitoring, but will respond immediately to public reports.
The SWD provides equipment and, if needed, handles the capture or disposal of crocodiles.
On average, the city receives one report per month, with sightings reportedly increasing since 2024, though the situation remains under control.
Precautionary measures include warning signs and red flags at areas such as Tanjung Aru Beach.
Sabin noted that actions are being taken to ensure tourists understand the warnings. Activities in affected waters remain restricted under the Marine Department’s jurisdiction.
