SANDAKAN: The community development officer (CDO) for Elopura pleaded not guilty in the Special Corruption Court here Friday to two charges of abusing his position by recommending two relatives as recipients of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) houses in 2022 despite them being ineligible.
Herman Idris, 52, entered the plea before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus after the charges were read to him.

He is alleged to have committed the offences on Sept 26, 2022, at about 2.30pm during a Sandakan district focus group meeting at the Libaran Conference Hall, Level 1, Wisma Perbandaran of the Sandakan Municipal Council.
According to the charges, Herman allegedly used his position to recommend poverty assistance under the SMJ Housing Programme valued at RM70,000 each for two relatives who were later selected as Rumah Mesra SMJ recipients despite being ineligible.
The court fixed April 2 for pre-trial case management and granted bail of RM15,000 with RM6,000 to be deposited in one local surety, with Herman also ordered to surrender his passport, report to the MACC office every two months and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses.
