Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Forestry Department has denied allegations of illegal logging at Batu 63, Sook, which recently went viral.
Director Datuk Zulkifli Suara said investigations confirmed that operations at the site were legal, conducted under a licence issued to Yayasan Sabah through Block YK2/2023.
He noted that circulating claims were inaccurate and misleading. “Technical inspections confirmed all logs were properly recorded in CS forms and had valid Transit Passes for transport,” he said.
Zulkifli added that 28 logging machines at the site were officially registered with the Road Transport Department and Sabah Forestry Department.
Some minor administrative breaches, such as missing hammer marks and gaps in technical inspections, were identified, and the company involved was fined.
He emphasised that the activities cannot be classified as illegal logging and urged the public not to spread unverified information.
