SANDAKAN: Three wooden houses and three wooden grocery shops were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Bukit Nenas, Karamunting, early Wednesday morning.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief, PKPgB Jimmy Lagung, said the emergency call was received via the NG999 line at 3.01 am, prompting a fire engine with personnel to be dispatched to the scene, located approximately 13 kilometres from the station.

He added that the fire crew arrived at 3.14 am and found the blaze had engulfed three wooden houses and three wooden grocery shops, covering an estimated area of 90 by 150 feet.
“The fire also involved a motorcycle, which was 100 per cent destroyed,” he said.
Firefighters conducted suppression operations using a single 800-foot line with two water jets, drawing water from the fire engine.
PKPgB Jimmy Lagung said the prompt action of the fire team successfully contained the fire at 3.40 am, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas.
“The team managed to save about 350 nearby residential houses from being destroyed by the fire,” he said. No casualties were reported in the incident.
