Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for issuing a criminal threat against a restaurant worker.
Trader, Lim Yoong Fei pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to threatening one Md Qayyim Jaini with injury on Aug 19, 2025, at 4.30pm, at a restaurant in Foh Sang Luyang.
Lim was convicted under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both on conviction.
Earlier, the prosecution informed the court that on the said day the complainant was stabbed in the abdomen with a fork by Lim while at the restaurant.
The incident occurred after the complainant intervened to protect his employer, who was being assaulted by her husband, Lim.
After the incident, the complainant returned to the workers’ quarters for his safety.
He sustained a small wound to his abdomen but did not seek hospital treatment as the injury was minor.
Investigations revealed that while trying to break up the couple’s fight, the complainant punched Lim on the head.
Dissatisfied, Lim later went looking for him in the kitchen and stabbed him in the stomach with a fork.
Other workers managed to stop the attack.
Lim also threatened the complainant by saying, “Saya bunuh kau (I will kill you).”
Unrepresented, Lim requested a lenient sentence and for the sentence to run from the date of his arrest.
Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah applied a deterrent sentence.
Dzul Elmy ordered Lim, who is currently serving an imprisonment sentence for assault and drug offence, to serve the jail term concurrently with his present sentence.
Meanwhile, seven people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.
Four of them pleaded guilty to taking dangerous drugs while the rest admitted to having syabu.
The four were Richerd Zain, Abdol Hajan, Benhar Sahirin and Maklan Amsin, who were sentenced to between five months and seven months jail.
Richerd, Abdol and Benhar were also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
Taking drugs as framed under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
While the other three, Roslan, Fazila and Madpar Muhaimin were convicted for having syabu weighing 0.03gm and 0.05gm at separate locations here in November last year.
Roslan and Fazila were each fined RM2,000 or six months jail while Madpar was handed seven months jail.
Having syabu framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.
