The nearly RM5 million mosque project was launched in January 2022 and began construction in 2023. It can accommodate up to 1,000 worshippers at a time.
UMS said the mosque reflects strong cooperation between the federal and state governments and is expected to enhance religious, educational and community engagement in Sandakan.
The university’s Islamic Centre has also been appointed as a zakat collection and distribution agent, benefiting students and staff through various forms of financial assistance.
