Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Aslan Syah Saymsir pleaded not guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to a charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

He is accused of touching the girl’s stomach and private parts for sexual purposes at about 11pm in November 2024 at a house in Ranau.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

The court fixed April 2 for pre-trial case management and allowed bail at RM3,000 with two local sureties, who are his parents, and ordered him to report monthly to the nearest police station, not to disturb prosecution witnesses and to surrender his passport, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir appeared for the prosecution and the accused was unrepresented.
