TAWAU: A 54-year-old man sustained injuries after the Perodua Kembara he was driving skidded off the road and plunged into a 20-metre-deep ravine at Simpang 4, Jalan Bukit TV here, Saturday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said his team rescued the victim, who was given initial treatment by the Fire and Rescue Emergency Medical Response Services unit before being transported to hospital for further treatment.
The station received the emergency call at 8.07pm and arrived at the scene some 10 kilometres away at about 8.25pm.
“The rescue operation was carried out swiftly and safely. The operation ended at about 8.28pm after the team made sure there were no more hazards,” he said.
The operation involved a team of eight personnel, including officers led by Zouragana Konin.
In a separate incident on the same day, a fire destroyed two units of workers’ shared quarters at Jalan Kubota Taman Pinery Height, prompting the deployment of 15 personnel to the scene.
Jemishin said the emergency call was received at about 2.38pm, with the team arriving at the location some six kilometres away at 2.44pm.
The fire was brought under control by 3.05pm.
No casualties were reported in the incident. The operation ended at about 3.32pm after the team made sure the site was clear of any further hazards.
