SOOK: The long wait for more than 5,000 residents of Lanas sub-district to enjoy improved infrastructure is set to end as the 2.4-kilometre road paving project to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lanas begins this month.
The strategic project, funded under the Sabah State Government allocation, is expected to take one year to complete, ending the long-standing difficulties faced by students and local residents.
Assistant Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Jordan Jude Ellron expressed gratitude to the state government for approving the allocation, which has long been a dream for residents of Lanas sub-district.
“The project will be closely monitored to ensure quality, as the route serves as a main artery used daily by villagers of Kampung Lanas and surrounding areas,” said the Tulid assemblyman.
Jordan said this after the groundbreaking ceremony for the SK Lanas road project in here, recently.
Meanwhile, residents interviewed expressed relief and appreciation for the government’s attention to rural infrastructure issues.
Kampung Lanas Station Village Head Diris Jawa, said the lack of a paved road had caused significant difficulties for schoolchildren, who often faced muddy conditions during the rainy season.
He explained that students’ school uniforms frequently became soiled before reaching class, but the road paving will make their daily journeys easier and cleaner.
Similarly, Kampung Kuit JKKK chairman Alfian Linggi highlighted that the road’s importance extends beyond daily use, noting its significance for local democratic processes.
He said SK Lanas also serves as the polling centre for Lanas sub-district, and the paving project is seen as a major transformation that will improve accessibility and mobility for the community in Sook’s interior.
