Kota Kinabalu: The Society for the Sabah Heart Fund (SOSHF) was deeply encouraged and moved to reunite with Eidy, a former heart patient who underwent life-saving corrective heart surgery at the age of three in 2014.

Eidy received free corrective heart surgery at Severance Cardiovascular Hospital, South Korea, through a collaborative sponsorship between the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host and SOSHF.

Another young patient Al Daffi Siri also benefited from the same sponsorship initiative. Facilitated by SOSHF, the surgery marked a crucial turning point in Eidy’s young life.

Today, more than a decade later, Eidy is a healthy and active 15-year-old and currently a Form Three student, an outcome that reflects the remarkable impact of early medical intervention and sustained post-treatment care.

The meaningful reunion took place at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) II after Eidy’s mother contacted SOSHF President Datuk Eva Susau, while the family was travelling from Labuan. Eidy had been brought to Kota Kinabalu for a scheduled CT scan as part of his routine medical follow-up.

Eidy arrived with his parents and siblings and was delighted to meet Eva and the SOSHF team once again. Now an energetic teenager, he is actively involved in volleyball, a joyful testament to his restored health and vitality.

He also expressed his hope to reconnect with Al Daffi, his fellow heart surgery companion, through the SOSHF network.

“Seeing Eidy healthy, active and full of life after ten years is one of the greatest rewards of our mission. Moments like these remind us why we persevere, so that every child entrusted to us may grow, thrive and fulfil their God-given potential,” said Eva.

The reunion was a deeply emotional and joyful occasion for both the family and the SOSHF team, serving as a powerful reminder of the long-term impact of timely medical intervention, compassionate care and collective generosity.

Since its establishment in 1981, SOSHF has assisted 735 heart patients, enabling children from Sabah to receive life-saving treatment both locally and abroad.

The Society remains steadfast in its commitment to bringing hope, healing, and renewed life to children with congenital heart disease across Sabah.

Members of the public who wish to support this life-saving mission may contribute to Society for the Sabah Heart Fund (SOSHF), Maybank Account No: 5101-4311-2262. Every contribution, big or small, helps give a child a second chance at life.
