KUNAK: A trailer lorry carrying a load of palm kernel shells overturned at a bend at KM34 of the Kunak-Lahad Datu road early Thursday.
Kunak District Police Chief Supt. Rejali Ak Angong said the incident occurred around 5am, causing both lanes to be blocked and disrupting traffic flow for several hours.
“As a result of the accident, both lanes were impassable to vehicles, causing traffic congestion,” he said when contacted by Daily Express.
A temporary single-lane route along the road shoulder was opened to allow vehicles to move slowly past the scene.
Officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), assisted by the police MPV unit, were deployed to control traffic.
“No casualties were reported in the accident. It only involved damage to the vehicle,” he said.
Efforts are ongoing to remove the overturned trailer.
The federal road is a main route linking Sabah’s east coast to Kota Kinabalu.
