Kuala Lumpur: Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has urged the Works Ministry (KKR) to prioritise temporary measures to ease traffic congestion in Tamparuli town while the reconstruction of the Tamparuli Bridge is underway.
He raised the matter in a supplementary question to Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan during the Dewan Rakyat sitting, saying congestion along the Tamparuli–Ranau route had worsened and become a daily complaint among residents.
“Kesesakan di jalan ini memang teruk. Inilah antara keluhan orang-orang di Tamparuli sekarang,” he said during the Oral Question session on Thursday.
Madius also questioned whether the previous traffic study truly reflected the current situation, noting that traffic flow appeared far heavier daily, especially during weekends, and asked whether the Government had any interim plan while the Tamparuli Bridge remains closed and under reconstruction.
Responding, Ahmad said the earlier study conducted in 2024 based on data from the HR207 census station along Federal Route 22 showed the Level of Service (LOS) for the Tamparuli–Ranau road at Level A, but acknowledged a new study would be carried out this year with the Public Works Department (JKR) and traffic authorities to assess the actual conditions and identify possible short-term solutions.
