LAHAD DATU: Four individuals were detained by the Enforcement Division of the National Registration Department (JPN) Sabah in separate operations at the Lahad Datu JPN office on Monday.
The Sabah JPN, in a statement, said the four individuals were detained over suspected false information submitted in birth registration applications.
The operations were conducted at the JPN office in Lahad Datu on Feb 23.
The cases are being investigated under Sections 418 and 419 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, as well as Section 33(1)(a) of the Registration of Births and Deaths Ordinance (Sabah Cap 123) for allegedly making or allowing false statements for the purpose of registration.
The department stressed that any attempt to provide false information is a serious offence.
Members of the public are reminded to provide complete and truthful information when dealing with official matters, as appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
