Two women charged over stolen mattresses
The charges against both women each provide for imprisonment for a term of not less than six months and not more than five years, whipping, and may also be liable to a fine, upon conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Two women were charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, with criminal misappropriation of property involving mattresses belonging to a home appliance company.

Siti Nuraishah Ibrahim, 29, and Noor Razliana Jakariah, 34, who appeared before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Nuraishah faces six charges, while Razliana is charged with two counts, all under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

Nuraishah allegedly misused six mattresses owned by the company and registered under five different names, using the money from selling them for her own purposes.

She was alleged to have committed the offences twice on April 11, on April 7 and April 29, and twice on April 25, all in 2022, at separate locations in Kg Tanjung Aru Lama and Cybercity Apartment.

Meanwhile, Razliana was accused of misappropriating two mattresses owned by the same company and registered under two individuals’ names, using the money from selling them for her own purposes.

She was alleged to have committed the offences on April 11 and April 22, 2022, at Kg Muhibbah, near here.

The court fixed April 21 for mention of the cases and released Nuraishah on bail of RM3,500 in two sureties, while Razliana was offered bail at RM2,800 in two sureties. Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man was fined RM1,200 or three months’ jail for engaging in online gambling activity.

Irwanzi Halok pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing the offence using a handphone on Feb 17 at 4.10pm, at the staircase area next to a shop at Kepayan Ridge here. 

He was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

The court heard from prosecuting officer Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah that Irwanzi was arrested for committing the offence by police who inspected the area. 

The items seized from Irwanzi were also analysed by gambling experts, who found that the equipment had been used for online gambling top-ups based on chance.
