Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man was charged with having 43,200 ml of ketum liquid and 12kg of ketum powder.
Mohd Nur Syahdhan Ramlee was brought before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to face the charge against him on Wednesday.
However, no plea was recorded from Mohd Nur after the charge was read to him as the prosecution informed the court that the chemist report on the ketum is still pending.
Mohd Nur is accused of having the 24 bottles of ketum liquid and 12 large transparent plastics of ketum powder containing Mitragynine which listed as the first and third scheduled of the Poison Act.
He allegedly had in possession the items at 3pm on Jan 22 this year at a unit of the PPR Gayang Ria 1 in Tuaran.
The offence under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 and punishable under Section 30(5) of the same Act which provides for fine of up to RM100,000, or a jail term of up to five years, or both, on conviction.
The court fixed Apr 10 for mention and Mohd Nur was released on bail of RM3,000 in two local sureties pending the disposal of his case.
Mohd Nur was also ordered to report to Tuaran police station every first day of the month and surrender his passport, if any, to the court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis appeared for the prosecution while Mohd Nur was not represented.
In the same court, a 48-year-old man charged with raping his niece, will go trial on Sept 2 and 3 this year.
The man is accused of raping the 13-year and five-month-old at a living room of a house in Tuaran in November 2024.
The prosecution told the court that five witnesses are expected to be called in the hearing.
