KOTA KINABALU: A 27-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here with possessing 43.2 litres of ketum liquid and 12 kilogrammes of ketum powder.
Mohd Nur Syahdhan Ramlee was brought before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan on Wednesday, but no plea was recorded as the chemist’s report is still pending.

He is accused of possessing 24 bottles of ketum liquid and 12 large transparent plastic packets of ketum powder containing Mitragynine, listed under the First and Third Schedules of the Poisons Act, at a unit of PPR Gayang Ria 1 in Tuaran at about 3pm on Jan 22 this year.
The charge under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, punishable under Section 30(5) of the same Act, carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
The court fixed April 10 for mention and allowed bail of RM3,000 in two local sureties, with conditions that he report monthly to the Tuaran police station and surrender his passport, while in the same court a 48-year-old man charged with raping his niece is scheduled to stand trial on Sept 2 and 3 with five prosecution witnesses expected to testify.
