KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested a civil servant from a State Government department on suspicion of soliciting and receiving about RM3,000 in bribes in exchange for awarding a Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) project to a contractor.
It was understood that the male suspect in his 40s was detained at about 12.40pm on Wednesday when he turned up to give his statement at the Sabah MACC office.
Initial investigations indicate the alleged offence took place in 2024, with the suspect believed to have received about RM3,000.
The suspect is alleged to have received the money in stages through two online transfers into his personal bank account and an account belonging to his child.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 and that the suspect will be released after his statement is recorded.
