SIPITANG: Residents of Kampung Aru 9, located behind Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Pekan, are urging the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPPS) to immediately repair and maintain the village drainage system, which they say has caused repeated flash floods.
Resident Jaridah Osman said the poorly maintained drains often overflow during heavy rain, allowing floodwaters to enter homes.
Heavy rain since Saturday forced her and other villagers to rush to save their belongings, including mattresses and other easily damaged items.
The situation was particularly difficult for a mother who had just given birth, as she had to sit on a bench to protect her newborn while usual resting arrangements on the floor were disrupted.
Jaridah added that daily activities were affected, with villagers continuously bailing out water while preparing food for breaking fast and finding safe places for their belongings.
She said flash floods have occurred multiple times, highlighting what residents describe as poor drainage maintenance by JPPS.
The villagers are also urging Sindumin Assemblyman Yusri Pungut to visit the village, assess the situation, and press the relevant authorities for action.
