KOTA KINABALU: A Form Two student told an inquest that Zara Qairina Mahathir appeared distressed and said '
saya mahu terjun'(I want to jump) about an hour before she was found unconscious on the school hostel grounds.
Counsel Joan Goh, who appeared with Datuk Ram Singh, said the student, the 65th deponent, testified that she saw Zara between 1am and 2am on July 16 pacing in front of a third-floor toilet and dorm area.
“She said Zara’s face appeared red and she looked like she had just been crying, and when asked about her condition, Zara said she wanted to transfer schools but refused to explain why and only said, ‘
saya mahu terjun’,” Goh said.
Goh said the student, initially unsure whether Zara was serious, advised her to calm down, held her hand and accompanied her back to her room before returning to her own room in Block B.
She said the witness later learned of the incident the following morning before dawn prayers when a friend informed her that Zara had jumped, leaving her shocked and unable to respond.
