RANAU: Police arrested two local men in separate operations in Kampung Bongkud here over suspected ketum selling activities.
In the first raid at about 2pm, a 37-year-old man was detained with a gunny sack containing 1.4 kilogrammes of ketum leaves, and a gas canister and cooking stove were also seized.

An hour later, at about 3pm, a 49-year-old man was arrested with 18 1.5-litre plastic bottles containing suspected ketum juice kept in a refrigerator, along with a gas canister and cooking stove.
The collection and processing of ketum liquid is an offence under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
District police chief Supt Mursalin Mahmud said police would continue to intensify operations to curb such illegal activities for the well-being of the community in the district.
