Tenom: The Persatuan Etnik Murut Timugon Sabah (P.E.M.T.S) has called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take strict action against individuals misusing artificial intelligence to create and circulate obscene Murut songs on social media.
Its President, Junik Bajit, said the acts violate cultural norms, tarnish the image of the Murut Timugon community, and could cause misunderstandings and tension among locals. He made the remarks during the P.E.M.T.S Annual General Meeting and Elections for the 2026–2028 session.
“The content of these songs is entirely obscene and does not reflect the true identity of Murut arts and culture,” Junik said.
He urged MCMC to investigate immediately and take measures such as blocking or removing the songs to prevent further spread.
He also called on authorities, including the police, to trace the source of the songs and bring those responsible to court.
Junik emphasised the importance of addressing the misuse of AI and digital technology to prevent the spread of immoral content, particularly among younger audiences.
He encouraged the public to use technology responsibly and respect the cultural sensitivities of all communities to maintain harmony in Sabah’s multi-ethnic society.
