Police warn against misuse of AI to spread false content
TAWAU: Netizens, particularly social media influencers, have been warned against misusing artificial intelligence (AI) applications to create fabricated content that could trigger public panic in pursuit of high engagement.

District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the growing trend of AI-generated content aimed at attracting high “hits” risks exposing the public to an overload of false information that blurs the line between fact and fiction.

He cautioned that creating or sharing fabricated incidents such as accidents, murders or other disturbing events as if they were real could mislead the public and cause unnecessary alarm.

Jasmin said this at the 219th Police Day celebration at the district police headquarters on Wednesday, which also saw certificates of appreciation presented to 11 mainstream media practitioners, including two Daily Express journalists.
