SEMPORNA: A total of 39 fines were issued during Op Selamat and Op Cegah Jenayah (Crime Prevention Operation) conducted at KM 2, Semporna-Tawau Road on Tuesday night in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2026.
Semporna District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the operation aimed to ensure public safety and order during the festive season.
Its objectives included detecting stolen vehicles, combating crimes such as housebreaking and smuggling, apprehending wanted individuals, and taking action against traffic offences.
Officers inspected vehicle documents and driving licences while also providing road safety advice.
The 39 summonses were issued for offences such as driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, no insurance, and vehicle technical violations.
Supt Tan advised the public to secure their homes, drive responsibly, and remain vigilant.
He emphasised that such operations would continue, particularly during festivals, and urged community cooperation to maintain district security.
The operation involved officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKK), led by District BSPT Chief Inspector Samsudin Ali.
