SANDAKAN: The District Council will operate five Ramadan bazaars this year, offering a total of 460 lots across Jalan Coastal (154), Sejati Walk Batu 7 (100), Bandar Sibuga Jaya Batu 8 (116), Tamu Gum-Gum Batu 16 (69) and Agrobazaar Batu 32 (21).
President Walter Kenson said four additional privately managed bazaars have also been approved at Bataras Hypermarket Bandar Utama IJM (100 lots), Kompleks Sukan Sandakan (30), Masjid Nurrusyakirin Indah Jaya (20) and Bandar Nam Tung (16).

He said they have replaced the bidding or tender system with a transparent lot draw to ensure fairness and help stabilise food prices through lower permit fees.
This year, 30 per cent of bazaar lots are allocated to youths to encourage small business participation.
Two new rural locations, Tamu Gum-Gum and Agrobazaar Batu 32, were introduced to boost the local rural economy and improve logistics.
Walter urged traders to comply with regulations, maintain cleanliness and ensure food is safe and reasonably priced.
He also invited the public to support the bazaars and advised shoppers to spend wisely to avoid waste.
