Kota Kinabalu: Muslims have been urged to cultivate the practice of reading, memorising and reflecting on the Quran as a foundation to strengthen faith and enhance competitiveness across various sectors.
Sabah’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman
(pic) said about 750 verses in the Quran encourage Muslims to seek knowledge, reflect and use their intellect optimally in the pursuit of ultimate truth.
“In the context of modern life, Muslims are encouraged to make the Quran a source of strength to nurture innovative thinking as a basis for enhancing capability.
“Reflecting on the contents of the Quran will reinforce faith in Allah SWT and subsequently build inner strength within the community. This effort is important in enhancing capacity and competitiveness in all sectors,” he said.
Tun Musa said this when delivering his message at the closing ceremony and prize presentation of the 2026 Sabah State-Level Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly at Wisma MUIS here on Friday.
Also present were the State Governor’s wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, Chief MIinister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, Minister of Local Government and Housing cum Minister in charge of Islamic affairs in Sabah, and senior officials.
Tun Musa reminded that science and technology cannot stand independently without revelation, noting that many scientific discoveries from the golden age of Islamic civilization to the present are rooted in the Quran and the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
“The intellectual concepts outlined in the Quran cultivate a spirit of reflection that drives people to think, observe and investigate.
“Among the discoveries often associated with it are the processes of human creation, gravity, sound, light, animals, stars and mathematics.
“This contrasts with Western views in the 17th century that regarded revelation as mere myth,” he said.
He said efforts to instil a knowledge culture grounded in the Quran must be strengthened comprehensively to contribute to development and the well-being of society.
